Sustainable Business Forum Twitter Chat with CROA Executive Director, Richard Crespin
Featuring Insights from COMMIT!Forum's Debate on the Value of Corporate Responsibility
Thursday, October 27th at 2pm ET

During the most highly acclaimed COMMIT!Forum Plenary Session, CNBC's John Harwood moderated between the "good guys", HIP Investor CEO Paul Herman and Columbia Business School's Vinay Nair, and the "bad guys", The Vice Fund Manager Gerry Sullivan and Michigan Business School's Aneel Karnarni, as they debated the resolution: when companies expend resources on sustainability and corporate responsibility they destroy shareholder value.

Hear from CROA Executive Director, Richard Crespin on what he learned from this debate, including:

1.  Corporate Responsibility (CR) can rebuild the political center. CR offers one of the best hopes we have for rebuilding a political center in this country because it draws inspiration from both classic liberalism and classic conservatism.

2.  We've got the data.  If we'd held this debate a few years ago the data battle would have been unbelievably one-sided and CR would have lost.  While reasonable people can still look at the same data and arrive at different conclusions, at least now we have data to back up CR's claims.

3.  CR is the story. Everybody has a boss; the CEO's boss is the shareholder and by proxy the analysts and institutional investors that ask the tough questions.  CEOs need selling points -- points of differentiation articulating why they're a better steward of the investor's money than the next guy.  Increasingly, CR is that story.

Please mark your calendar to join us!  Bring your questions, bring your expertise, and bring your advice for others in the CR community and beyond.  To participate in the chat, just log on to Twitter on October 27th at 2pm Eastern and follow the hashtag #SUSTBIZ. Be sure to use the same hashtag in your tweets, too, so others will know you are participating.

Webinar: Cross-Sector Collaboration
An HP Clinton Health Access Initiative Case Study
May 11th, 12pm-1pm ET

In Kenya, between 7–15% of pregnant women are HIV positive, and the mother-to-child transmission is as high as 45%.  At least 120,000 Kenyan infants a year are exposed to HIV, and without immediate treatment, more than half of those who are HIV-positive are unlikely to live past age two. Although all infants are required to be tested, the country’s HIV testing system has relied on the slow, inefficient mail system to send blood samples to national and regional labs.

HP, the Clinton Health Access Initiative and the Kenyan government are improving and enhancing the Early Infant Diagnosis process and significantly reducing the turn-around time for test results, thereby shortening the time to commence treatment and increasing the probability of survival for these vulnerable infants.  Join us May 11th from 12 noon - 1pm ET for an in depth discussion on how this program is making a difference in Kenya, lessons learned along the way, and best practices for cross-sector partnerships.

Speakers:  Paul Ellingstad, Director of Global Health Partnerships and Programs, Office of Global Social Innovation, HP and Jackson Hungu,  Deputy Country Director, Kenya at the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI).
